In honor of the spirit of this project: I don’t understand why biography blurbs are often written in third person. That seems odd as most “bios” are autobiographical so why the hell are we using third person?
My name is Ed Dunbar and I am a mid 40’s cisgender straight white guy. I am currently the program director for a graduate level addictions program at a land-grant university and operate a small private counseling practice. I have a bunch of letters behind my name which I pay for to demonstrate that I have completed some basic education and training requirements which I also pay for. Occasionally, I will publish articles in academic journals without reimbursement, or sometimes my employer pays a fee to have them published, which you can view online by paying the publisher.
I have been in addictions work for the last two decades and I am continually baffled by our regressive practices and policies which inspired me to start this project. I have participated in various clinical, training, academic, licensure, and accrediting body meetings with the long held belief “well I don’t agree but certainly this person knows what they are talking about.” As I enter middle age, I have concluded that this belief was faulty and that most of what we know and hear about drugs and people who use them is complete nonsense with the objective of maintaining the status quo of oppression, racism, and inequality through fear.
Goodness what an aggressive bio that turned out to be. But on the lighter and more important side, I enjoy beekeeping, running, playing guitar, sailing, and have an untreatable fly fishing addiction. However, my favorite activities are hanging out with my big hearted wife and ridiculously silly daughter.
